Lives and works:  Ambala, India

Sanjay Dhawan is an Indian contemporary abstract painter, whose original work is identified by its vibrant color combinations, geometrical shapes and 3D qualities. His strong visual signature lies on his ability to create unique geometric compositions of vibrant colors, while experimenting with new mediums and techniques.

Sanjay's 3D creations are the result of his fascination with corrugated cardboard's texture and ridges since year 2010. He started experimenting and bringing to 'life' the corrugated cardboard sheets assembling them in his studio, by using different color application techniques and formatting methods. His work is described perfectly by Van Gogh's observation that “Great things are done by a series of small things brought together”. Some of Dhawan's artworks contain more than 150 pieces of cardboard set together to form a complicated composition.

One important detail that Sanjay meticulously strives for when assembling the corrugated cardboard pieces, is the flutes to stay in parallel maintaining a uniform visual effect.

A perfectionist by nature Sanjay's work is evident of his desire to deliver outstanding creations, while aiming to communicate his emotions and everyday observations through the power of color.

He has exhibited extensively in his home country gaining art critics and media favor, and international recognition, with UK representations and exhibitions.

Medium: Corrugated Cardboard, Acrylic Paint, wooden boards
